i have no idea if this is legit, but it looks like a leaked promo video from Nintendo with footage of their next-gen game console, the Nintendo Revolution, which is probably going to come out in 2006... hopefully they'll have some more to show about it at the upcoming E3 this next week

now ya know why i called it the Nintendo Helmet... damn, is that some slick looking design work or what?! very high tech and futuristic, especially with the whole visor thing being revisited... makes me think of alot of anime i've seen over the years, which i think is pretty kickass... *grin*

Man the nintendo helmet is sick lookin, I hope they make this, I have been waitin for it for years. Its a totally emersive experience. I love how they have the sorround sound done and the fact that there is eye motion radar so the thing knows where u are lookin and ..hopefully looks there ingame. it looks very customizable giving people individuality, u can hook it to the TV for dvd watching etc. they seem to have the bases covered ...I love how Nintendo is usually the one to push the envelope, think outside the box ...or cube as the case may be, and come up with somethin that pushes the limits of what is normally seen in the gaming community... cant wait to buy one!!

To be honest i really don't think it'll catch on. unless, like sammo said, you can hook it up to a tv. Otherwise i can't see people picking up a helmet to play games

now i'm kinda curious about that "512" myself... i couldnt remember what the "64" was, specifically, in the N64 system... cuz it wasnt a true 64-bit system, if i remember right... hmmmmmm

That's a longer video, ending with this video. It tells you that the NES was 8-bits, N64 64-bits, etc. then ends with the Revolution at 512... are they meaning bits or RAM here? Guess we'll have to wait and see...

The two main problems I see with this thing are:

* Multiplayer is gonna be expensive (a helmet/brain each)
* Watching a DVD with your girlfriend at night...each with a visor...kinda ruins the mood eh?

Although both these problems would be solved if you could hook it up to a tv and have seperate controllers...

to fix the z-index problem, you can get around it by calcuting when the
menu goes over (or right now under) the combo or whatever. then hide
the combo and problem solved. then when menu goes, put combo back.
that's how its done in the coolMenus anyway i think, and various other
menus. not sure of the code though.

the whole visor thing, while it might sound kewl, just doesnt seem like something that i'd dig as much on the whole... but they might do it really damn well, where it would be really kewl and catch on... have to wait and see, i guess.

think it's kinda funny that it's styled like a helmet.. *chuckles*

yeah but that was for the game boy and only came out in japan as a test...they have slightly less limitations graphics wise now

Nintendo have done something like this before. It was a red visor like thing on a stand. The graphics where like 3D, but all in that Tron green colour and the controller was the name as the NES one.

it's cuz of the way the Flash plugin is <embed>'d into the webpage... you can set the z-index of a DIV to 1000, and the flash object will still supercede your DIV -- something that has always sucked, if you ask me.

A nice attribute in XHTML2.0 would be a layer="integer" that can put put onto any block level element. What it does would be self-explanatory.

i'm with ya on the graphics.... one reason i'm stoked about the spec's i've seen of the *new* Xbox 360 -- they really have raised the bar, more than i (and alot of others) expected or dreamed that MS would do... hell, the system has a graphics chipset that's not even out on the market yet, with 512 MB or onboard DDR2 ram... and you probably cant buy that ATI card for the price of the whole console -- that's fucking sick, mang.

if you build a console with that kinda horsepower under the hood, the game developers are bound to take advantage of it -- and that's what's going to be really effin kewl in another year or so.... *grins*

as for the Flash being "on top" of the menu's.... not much i can do about it, other than some weird hacks and shit... IE puts the flash (object/embed) above anything else in the page when it renders it... same goes for form inputs and textarea in IE, which is one thing i *really* hope they change at some point cuz it's been a problem (and it's bullshit, IMHO)

maybe in IE7? doubtfoo, but we'll see...

if it is real, that looks amazing. otherwise, someone's gone to a
lot of trouble to fake that; it looks very convincing indeed. it makes
me think it could be real as they're doing the whole "extra senses"
thing like they've done with the DS. I have to admit, I went from sega
megadrive to PSX, but have owned a gameboy for almost forever. Nintendo
do rock, mainly in that they still pay lots of detail to the gameplay
unlike other game manufacturers I dont care to mantion..

But
will it be as good/comparable to the xbox360 and PS3 in terms of
graphics? gameplay is incredibly important, but so is graphics. this is
for me where they slipped up with the 64 and gamecube. both featured
many games of relatively low-detail, simple graphics (i.e. mario64 vs.
metal gear solid on PSX).

oh foO a lil problem I've just spotted with the XWeb menu and your Flash Videos, the Flash is on a higher level than the menu so when the menu reaches the video, say when you view catorgories, the menu goes behind the flash, making it hard/impossible to navigate.

i'll admit that i have a soft spot in my heart for the Nintendo, as that's the first game system that i really started play vid games on and have fond memories of playing games like Mario for hours and hours

i already know that i'll be looking to buy the Xbox 360 when it comes out -- i'm not into all these cute lil fun games as much anymore, i wanna play some immersive killing/combat FPS games... i'd luv some games like "God of War" to come to the Xbox, but that's not going to happen...

but i'm really impressed with this vid of the next-gen Nintendo console... still dont know if it's legit, but either way, it looks like a kewl helmet system to me!

I have to admit....Nintendo is the console-manufactorer for me! I've always loved them from SNES' to Gamecubes, although I admit I was swaying towards the xbox, because as fun as mario is (and it is fun) I was craving some adult games. Of course a long came Resi Evil 4 so i was sub-dued for a while. Now with all the xbox 360 stuff going on I can't decide again...

I think i'll have to get the revolution because of habit and curiousity, but the xbox 360 will deffinatly be on my list.

I still have faith in Nintendo after something shigaru Miyamoto said:
