here's a screenshot of my site under IE7 (beta1) on XP, which i just installed a few minutes ago... now i can kinda see why Microsoft didnt really push out this beta version, as it definitely has some issues

not sure why the tabs have to be up top lik that, not allowing me to move them below... there's that "blank" tab over on the right with nothing to say it opens up a new tab (just found that weird, even for a beta), and one of the first things noticed right away when i pulled up my site was that the position:fixed on the sidebar wasn't working in IE7 (beta).... damn.

try'n to realize that it's just a "beta", but it sure as hell seems more like some internal alpha build than a quasi-public beta... the disappointment and crique's are pretty damn sharp, that's for sure.

personally, i like the transparent titlebars in the screenshots of Vista that i've seen

What a peice of crap, but then, I wasnt really expecting much. I'll stick to Firefox and Safari thanks. IE7 has not given me anything close to a reason to consider going back, nor do I believe it ever will. If this beta version is a foreshadowing of things to come....well....

Safari & FF have done so much for the webstandards world, and I dont think IE will ever be able to catch up.

Err sorry, your right the refresh does toggle between refresh and stop. But today I did manage to get IE7 hung on a page and when it was hung it did not toggle to stop. I was looking all over the effin place to stop the damn thing but couldnt find the stop button. Hmmm. *strokes ghoatee*

Why is everyone in such shock? Did you honestly expect ANYTHING better from the IE development team? Please just give up people, move onto a newer browser that is willing to step up security fixes and actively support their product.

As a side note, did anyone see the icons from ,m Logica. Mmmm lovely.

Noticed one thing there is no effin stop button. So what do you do if the browser is hangin? I solved the problem tho I loaded firefox on Windows Vista. Works like a champ but it is ugly as hell under the default theme.

Good idea, Bryan. That's the approach that was taken with Netscape 8 - dual engines. Users can easily toggle between rendering engines.

On the IE blogs site I recommended they use the Gecko rendering engine (it IS open source) if someone were using Internet Explorer and the page had a DOCTYPE. Everything else (internal OS functions, old websites) uses the Trident engine. Problem solved.

I completly agree, accept the PNG support and RSS (which i both love) i've seen nothig now.

Well the irritating new layout and the Phishing stuff wich keeps on saying most of my favorite sites are phishing sites -_-

I halfway feel sorry for the IE team because they will fail unless they create something equal to Firefox, and that ain't going to happen.

my thoughts exactly, mang... almost feel sorry for the IE team, too, cuz i can only imagine the kinda feedback they're getting right about now -- the expectations are pretty high, more so since it's been so g'damn long since there was an IE upgrade of note... and Firefox has been steadily gaining users on a weekly basis of late, it seems.

i know i felt the disappointment settle in within about 120 seconds after fire'n it up earlier today

My IE7 install had the tabs below the file menu. I'm not sure why your install was goofed.

It seems like all the cool stuff is going into Visual Studio these days. The tabs in there are the best I've seen on any OS. I really like how you can have tabs in all four directions (tabs on the bottom of a window are nice). The customization is incredible. And the .NET team is talking with the Web Standards Project.

Today we formally announce the WaSP / Microsoft Corporation Task Force. WaSP's goal is to provide technical guidance and advice as the company increases Web standards support in its products including Microsoft Visual Studio and ASP.NET.

why not IE? If you're going to make a web standards-based development platform and tools, why not apply that to the thing that counts the most - the end user tool?

It doesn't make sense. They're either blowing smoke up developer's asses to keep them from promoting a competing browser, or they're working on it and haven't released the new rendering engine. Both scenarious will backfire in a major way because the only people that are seeing this are developers. Bad move on MS part.

They shouldn't have even released this if it's not going to have what developers want - full support for web standards. The reaction to this is only going to get worse. I halfway feel sorry for the IE team because they will fail unless they create something equal to Firefox, and that ain't going to happen.

I wonder if the File menu is under the tabs so that they could fake the whole thing. A tab is really just another browser window. Maybe MS could not figure out how to get 'View Source' and stuff to recognize what tab you are currently on, so they just make the whole thing change out. ???

Im not willing to install this just in case it screws up something. Might just wait and see if someone comes up with a way to do a side by side install like ie5.x

i was hoping that the IE7 beta install would be a standalone install, so i could keep IE6 and just fire up IE7 to check it out... unfortunately, that's not the case here, which totally sucked... i simply created a Restore Point in XP, before install'n and then rebooting my box here.

i'm with bryan... not sure if i simply had higher expectations or what, but i feel pretty effin let down. i was all excited to check this out, after all this time of hearing and reading about IE7.... *big sigh*

the File menu is down at the bottom and i cant effin move it above the damn tabs, which is annoying and just seems totally out of place... hell, if AOL can put the damn tabs below the Address Bar, why the fuck can't i do it in IE7?

and the tabs... why the regular "old" tabs, instead of the nicer looking blue ones from the screenies i saw the other day -- what, that's "only" for Longhorn/Vista? if so, that's bullshit, too.

and i wont even start on the CSS issues

And I'm viewing this in the beta. Though the beta does work, the people at Microsoft have yet to figure out what the words "Usable Interface" really mean.

Well, HELL YEAH! I am more and more amazed each time I come here. I dont know if it is the dizying array of new designs lately or only getting 4 hours of sleep, but WOW.

I LIKE this :) There hasn't been a design yet that Ididnt like. Keep it up.

I gave it 15 minutes to impress me, just to be fair. At 14.9 minutes I kicked off the uninstall process and rebooted (again) and went back to IE6. What a pile of junk. "Dissappointment" is being too nice.

Read the IE blog to get a feeling for how people feel about it. This guy says it best. I recommend reading this before even thinking about installing it.
