with the headlines these days, the economy around the world seemingly in the shitter at the moment... i dunno, just seems to me like apple really missed the boat on this one.

i laughed at the PS3 comment, btw... *chuckle*

I'd consider it if it wasn't $600. I bought craptacular Mac mini when Apple switched to Intel chips. I can't justify the price tag since I don't need a Mac anymore; especially when the parts can be acquired for $250 or less.

I'm buying one today. $52 for 4gb of RAM from dealram. 5 minutes to open it up, throw in the new sticks. It's going to replace my original Intel Duo mini, with much better graphics and double the ram, plus faster CPU's. I've got 2TB of Firewire disks waiting for it, so I'm good there, I'll use the on board 120 for my iTunes drive. I do pedestrian level Photoshop and Final Cut on my current one, plus a bunch of web & Java development tools, plus Parallels (can't completely shed my Windows use) so the new one will be an improvement. Not going to win any speed contests, but very useful for me. Curious to see if you can do twin monitors on it, that'd be nice. I bought a 15" MacBook Pro a while back, my wife has completely absorbed that as hers...... So this is a reasonable new toy for me for less that $700....

@foo I totally dig my 24" iMac. Glad to see they have up to 8gb of RAM now. Wish mine did.

i'm thinking about getting one of these to use as a htpc/file server due to the energy efficiency factor

hook it up to a drobo with a couple of 1TB drives and bam perfect little set-up

thoughts?

Yeah this isn't exactly made for a power user. I can appreciate it's size and all but I second FoO... Even with a memory upgrade. Imagine launching After Effects on this thing?

i dunno man, i love the little sleek look of the mac mini for sure... but just looking over those spec's, sure seems pretty wimpy compared to other pc's in that price range... they might not be as small, but... *shrugs*

kinda looking at those 24" iMacs now, though ;)

I have an old mac mini, and I'm telling you $600 is a steal for this thing. Open it up and upgrade the RAM and you have one badass boxee.tv playing htpc.

The new baseline MacBooks start at $2000 AUD. These are a bit cheaper O_o.
The people who are jumping on the Mac bandwagon and only check their email and Internet at home, this is for them.

Not for me though :)
