What to know?

I'm usually pretty bad at these things, being the humble easy-going chap that I am and all... So really, what do you want to know? I work as a senior Web Designer at Clearspring and AddThis, which has been an awesome experience — great bunch of guys to work with, always busy and working/playing around with new stuff, never boring... catered lunches and a killer espresso machine is pretty sweet as well. heh.

In recent news, at least on a more personal level, I just bought a house and have been busy with all sorts of little projects that invariably spring up... I've been doing some yard work, which is a first for me - and damn tiring, too. Also about to start painting some of the walls a different color, which should be fun... I've always like painting, even if it's just a wall. Next projects include hardwood floors, and new kitchen appliances.

I'm divorced and a father to a great kid, my son Jayden, who's turned 14 years old this past march (2009). It's summer now, but he'll be going into high school this coming year, which is a big deal for anybody — I certainly remember the first time going into high school, and it's an experience... he's a great kid though, and should have no problems. Just trips me out, man. Next thing I know he'll be getting his drivers license — oh boy.

Game'age.

I'm actually a relative newbie as far as video games go, since I didn't really grow up playing them as a kid. Like most people of my generation, I grew up playing Pac-man, Donkey Kong, Contra, 1942 at the arcade... but my first game experience was actually loading up Ping-Pong on my dad's Commodore 64.

Nowadays you'll find me playing on either the Xbox 360 or PS3 — having both is nice, since there's games and exclusives on both systems worth having and playing through. I'll be honest though, I tend to like playing on the 360 more.

Movies.

I've grown to really love watching movies over the years. One of the things I was really looking forward to when moving was being able to setup my livingroom with a big 60" plasma, and surround sound speakers that can really crank — now that I have some more space around me, it's not as big of a deal and I'm loving it.

I've also been collecting blu-rays for the last year or so, and am now up to around 120+.

Speaking of movies and blu-ray, pickup any of the animated movies by Pixar because they looking & sound simply amazing. Seriously.

The Site.

The very, very first version of this site started up around 1998. I think. Back then I was messing around with ASP, and ended up starting a "weblog" using some free code I snagged online and started to learn by going through the code line-by-line as many of us do. Pretty much the same story as far as HTML/CSS and Photoshop are concerned as well — all self taught here.

This site is homebrewed, hand-coded in ColdFusion. MS SQL 2000 backend database. Not much as really changed in the last couple years since I first coded it up, though I have added and tweaked a few things as I've gone along. I've really scaled back from most of the stuff I had going on around there, since I have less time to play with my site here... and I tend to prefer simple & clean.

At the moment, I'm learning a little more about jQuery since it seems to be by far the most popular javascript library around, and I figure it's simply worth getting to know it better. Sure as hell makes things easier, and that certainly appeals to me ;)
